What is an Arborist?
An arborist is a trained professional who specializes in the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees, shrubs, vines, and other perennial woody plants.
Modern arborists apply bioscience disciplines—tree biology, plant pathology, soil science, entomology, and tree biomechanics—to diagnose problems, improve tree health, and manage risk. Many hold degrees or certifications in arboriculture, forestry, urban forestry, or related plant biosciences, and certified arborists (e.g., through the International Society of Arboriculture) are required to stay current with peer-reviewed research and evidence-based practices.
In short: an arborist is both a tree doctor and an applied tree bioscientist.
